What Remy Ma’s “shEther” Did To Nicki Minaj and Hip Hop

Ok, you’ve probably heard the new track from Remy Ma called “shEther”. It’s a crazy diss song towards Nicki Minaj that probably hasn’t ever been done before and it shows that bars still matter.  The controversy involving Drake and Meek Mill show that fans are taking notice to who writes and who doesn’t.  You can’t be the GOAT if you don’t write your own rhymes – period.  What Remy Ma has shown that it doesn’t matter how much you sell or who is behind you because over time, if you aren’t respected by your peers – (that includes us djs) – it doesn’t really matter.

Remy Ma broke it down on all levels from a concious point of view to the 360 deal issue and why she’s better off independent while Minaj could only react with a lame post on social media talking about sales… that’s not going to cut it and a “Back To Back” record probably wouldn’t help either.  Here’s why… “Back To Back” made people around the world know who Meek Mill was and his career is completely viable today.  It’s the first time in a beef that a career wasn’t destroyed so in the long run it only stands that Drake takes the L for being outed for not writing.

Should Minaj Respond?

What good would it do?…. Remy can keep going at her and it seems like if she stays off social media rants – people might just listen to the music.

Remy Ma has made a big mark on hip hop this week and diss records/beef will never be the same – don’t think record sales matter to a hungry emcee.  As hip hop becomes more pop with rappers rocking drab gear, mumbling and not focused on lyricism, Remy Ma’s track is a breath of fresh air to hip hop purists who respect creativity and wordsmiths…..
