Pepsi Drops Lil Wayne Over Lyrics
Due to a reference to US civil rights figure Emmett Till in one of his songs, Lil Wayne has been dropped from his PepsiCo campaign. Weezy had been the face of the Mountain Dew’s “Deweezy” campaign. The campaign and website was immediately taken down.
“We do not plan any additional work with Lil Wayne moving forward,” a Mountain Dew representative said in a statement. “His offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.”
Epic Records did offer an apology although Lil Wayne did not.
PepsiCo also pulled a number of ads recently for Tyler, The Creator, for “embracing racial stereotypes” and “trivializing violence towards women”.
