The CollegeDJ.net Equalizer Awards 2012: Hip Hop Album Of The Year Kendrick Lamar “Good Kid M.A.A.D City”:
This year’s first award goes to the artist who we feel really took the world by storm in 2012. Kendrick Lamar’s “Good Kid M.A.A.D City” is an instant classic: With help from Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar shows he is one of the premier new lyrical artists of this decade. Kendrick Lamar is easily on par with Jay-Z and Nas for his poetic rhymes and realness. His album “Good Kid M.A.A.D City” is extremely musical and showcases his ability to write interesting verses with tight hooks.
Last year we gave this award to Lil Wayne -“Tha Carter IV” – which sold 964,000, in the first week. This year we are basing our choice on talent, ability and future prospects. Expect more good things from Kendrick Lamar because Dr. Dre doesn’t get it wrong. We got a chance to preview Kendrick Lamar’s album last year in September 2012 and we knew right then and there that he was different than anything we’ve seen in the past.
