Spotlight on: Galaxie
Meet the Montreal-based French-speaking garage rock band
Man, some pretty great bands come out of Canada. Galaxie is a band that has been around since 2002, but has garnered a fair bit of acclaim for their most recent release, “Tigre et Diesel“, including a nomination for the Polaris music prize.
The best way I can describe them is to have you imagine that MGMT and The Black Keys had a kid, and that the kid could only speak French. They’re kind of like that, and they definitely have the chops to merit the comparison. Check out the drum breaks and synth lines for Piste 1 below, whose music video is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorites, and not just because the chorus translated from the French means “Because of you, the sky is like an evil dancefloor.”
But that’s a decent part of it.

Bonus points if you spotted the references to David Bowie.
