R.I.P. Guru – 1st Anniversary of Guru’s Passing Is Today

CollegeDJ.net Celebrates The Life And Times of Guru.

Today we celebrate Guru.  Keith “Guru” Elam was one of the most prolific hip hop artists ever to grace the mic.  He had a long history of lyricism and his tracks are timeless.  Listening to Guru spit one can see that he was way ahead of his time.  Much of the reason why people like Guru is because he was cross-cultural yet streetwise -pop but hip.

Guru rhymed with various types of artists from different genres and did not limit himself to hip hop.  With the help of DJ premier (in our top 5 of producers/djs of all time) he created Gangstarr which is still celebrated as one of the best hip hop groups of all time.   Guru’s monotone voice was one of the most recognizable voices in music and it won’t be forgotten anytime soon.  Guru’s Jazzmatazz records were a celebration of American music – it’s roots and modernity.  R.I.P. Guru.
