The Ramones helped create punk rock music. This new movement was all about energy. Punk rock music became a new form of expression when guitar solos became a little too lengthy. After overblown guitar licks and symphonies from the late 70s classic rock, the Ramones helped to generate a new movement in music around shorter songs.

The Ramones consisted of brothers, lead singer Joey Ramone, guitarist Johnny Ramone, and bassist Dee Dee Ramone.  Several bands such as the Sex Pistols, and the Clash were also at the forefront of this movement and helped launch the alternative music genre in the late 70’s mid 80’s. One of the reasons why the Ramones where able to capture young audiences was because their songs contained topics that they could relate to. Lyrics like, “I don’t wanna be buried in a pet cemetery.” Songs like “I Wanna Be sedated”, “Rock N Roll High School” among many others helped some get through 8-3 and 9-5.. The punk movement has now gone underground with the exception of mainstream bands like Green Day but the alternative sound is still very prevalent. The Ramones paved the way for modern rockers like Interpol, the Strokes and the Silversun Pickups.
